Default 96 jeep cherokee xj makes a horrible squealing sound

I have no idea what it could be. when i jacked the front end up and turn the driver wheel you can hear it. I can't tell if it's coming from the front axle, t-case or u joints. 96 Jeep cherokee xj(loud chirping sound):

Open the hood and check the serpentine belt and all the pulleys. The belt may just need to be tensioned higher.

I just check the belts no squeaks. Only when I'm driving and the noise seems to go away at high rpm's.

check for chipmunks

But without kidding: if you raise the front and turn the driver wheel, you hear it. That has nothing to do with a belt then, but is related to the driver front side. Thinking hubs, bearings....ujoint usually make a more click-click or clunk noise when they are going bad...

Hub/bearing check: lift the wheel, grap the tyre 12 nd 6 o'clock position and see if there is any movement (there should be none). Do the same at 9 and 3 o'clock position.
Any "wiggle" movement is abnormal. Remember that while driving ALL play will be worse.
Also check brake calliper for proper functioning. Car pulling to one side when letting go of steering wheel (please do not try this on busy street ?

Let us know how this goes

Sounds like a bad DC joint in the front driveshaft, but only squeaking when you turn the wheel wouldn't make sense. Are the front wheels turning (4WD on) when the noise happens, or stationary?

I went through some mud pits. Could the the noise be a dried bearing?
