Default 96 aw4 hard **** and delayed shift

So my 96 4.0 with aw4 shifts at about 3-3200 rpm no matter what. It also shifts very firm like shift kit firm. My 90 has the exact opposite issue. Now my question is what controls shifting? Is it vacuum or all electronic ? Is there a vacuum modulator that I need to look at it ? Any help would be great thanks in advance

There is a cable to adjust. Use the search function and type in "kick down cable adjustment ".

Based on input from TPS and Vehicle Speed sensor.

All important signals travel through the connectors featured in my Tip 10. I'd begin by refreshing those connectors.

I'll check the other plugs. I just put a rebuilt NSs in it before I bought it. And I'll chrck the lockdown/TV cable on both of them. From what it sounds like reading on that adjustment my 90 is too loose and my 96 is too tight I'll also check the plunger on the trans for free movement as I read that they like to stick

Ok slacked the cable on the 96 by about 4-5 mm and checked the trans plugs all is good still holding gears till about 3200 rpm.

That's kinda what I am thinking. My lady friend I bought it from said that sometimes it would just stop going and she would have to pull over and cycle the key. She said it was the trans. I have experienced it once since I've owned it and it is defiantly the throttle cutting out
