My 95 Jeep Cherokee still runs great. Had the rear springs replaced and it took care of drive line vibration (and sagging). Anyway, there is quite a bit of rust. The floor pan has holes and I put old road signs under the carpet to block the holes. The rocker panels are rotted. I don't have time or money to repair the rust at the moment, but I will be retiring in a couple of years and it will be a good project.
I'm concerned about passing inspection. Will it fail due to rocker panel rust?

In Massatwo****s, if the sheet metal is perforated with rust then yes, it will fail inspection. Throw some mud in the holes and rattle-can it with primer. It should pass then (he said with fingers crossed)...

Mud? Mud will hold moisture and cause more rust! Duct tape would be better than mud.

I bought a cheap MIG Welder. I could weld a piec of sheet metal over the rusted rocker and paint it black.
