I just bought a 1995 XJ and find out that the headlights do not work. All parking lights work as well as the brights if I hold them. I have changed the 40 amp fuse under the hood as well as the 25 and under the dash AutoZone said possibly the switch or relay. I bought a relay but don't know where to install it. I was also told those headlights are possibly bad and just come out as one piece. So I'm just looking for any insight, I'm brand-new to the jeeps and just trying to get the bad boy on the road before I do anything fun with it

Sounds like the switch. Easy and pretty cheap fix, but you will also want to check the headlight switch connector (the plug that plugs in to the switch). Those have a tendency to melt. On my 96 and my daughter's 90, I've had to replace both switches and both connectors.

That would make an excellent video!!

The $30 headlight relay harness is about the best upgrade any of us can do to the XJ. All should do it.

My only experience with headlight issues is with a 96 I owned. Couldnt get the headlights or indicators to work. There's a plug under the airbox that had completely corroded. I ended up just cutting it out and soldering the matching wires together and it was good until I sold it and probably still is.

As a matter of fact, it is one of the things I'm working on. I got tired of reading mixed reviews on the different ones available, so found a nice write-up on how to build it yourself. I am also going to make it so each headlight has an independent replay for the high and low beams. That way, if one replay goes bad, you won't lose both high or both low beams like you would with the single relay.Originally Posted by cruiser54

Video on how I make it, and how I install it will be coming.

So the **** pulled out of my headlight switch in the dash, I drove home with 4ways on in the dark and parked it. Went to autozone and bought the only switch they had in stock which was the cheaper of the two. I installed it and now the parking lights will not work but the headlights do. The interior lights all function and turn signals but I cannot get the parking lights on when I use the switch. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, I am wondering if it just happens to be a bad switch, design flaw or caught in between model years. It is a '95 I should add.

Sure you didn't pop a fuse for the park lamp circuit?

It did not occur to me to check since the turn signals are working. I kind of assumed it would be the same one.Originally Posted by cruiser54
