Default 95 crank but no start

95 xj cranks but no start. It seems as though I’ve got no spark. Everything in the ignition has been replaced or tested. Coil, cap and rotor, switch, starter, plugs, wires, basically everything. Now I know most of you would say cps but that’s been replaced 2 times in the last 2 days. We know it’s good. The cam sensor is good because it’s new. Rotor and cap aren’t dirty they were replaced about a year ago and cleaned today. At this point I’m lost. All the grounds have been replaced within the year. Tps has been replaced. I’ve got pressure at the fuel rail. All the relays and fuses were checked and swapped with known good relays and still nothing.

any help is greatly appreciated. I cannot for the life of me figure out what the issue is.

I guess I should add what options it has.

I guess I should’ve been more clear. Yes the crank and cam sensor have been replaced and the injectors are firing.

coil was replaced. I’m currently trying a new distributor with all new internals gonna re test the new coil first and make sure that it’s getting spark out to the dizzy before tearing into it. Also gonna make sure that the injectors are firing as it was dark last night when I was messing with them.

This may be a dumb question but is the coil and distributor getting power ?

as fas as I know it is. I just got back to work on it so that’s the first thing I’m gonna test to see if I’m getting any spark out of the coil. If not then it’s gotta be something farther back in the system. If it does get spark then i would guess it’s the distributor or timing.

1. Can't rule out fuel just yet. You said you have fuel pressure at the rail but you need a certain pressure to fire the engine. For a 95, you need approximately 31 psi. Must be tested with a gauge as just pressing the schrader valve and seeing gas spurt out isn't exact enough. Here is something quick and dirty that might help you. Try introducing a splash of gasoline into the intake. If it starts and runs a few seconds doing this, you have confirmed a fuel delivery problem.

2. Test for spark at the plugs. Pull a plug, keep the plug attached to the wire. Place the plug electrode near a good engine ground. Have a buddy crank the engine over while you watch. You are looking for a strong, BLUE, snapping spark. Yellow/orange/white indicates a weak spark.

Spark: 12 volts from ignition switch to the ASD relay; when the key is first turned on the PCM provides a ground to the ASD relay to energize it, then the ASD relay passes 12 volts to the coil primary side. If no crank sensor signal is generated after a couple of seconds the PCM cuts the ground to the ASD relay (and fuel pump relay too) and that cuts power to the coil (and fuel pump). Key to START and once again the PCM energizes the ASD relay. Now, a critical element is the crank sensor--no signal from the crank sensor and the PCM won't trigger the coil to provide spark.

3. Injector pulse can be verified with a simple noid light.

Good luck and keep us updated!
