94 XJ vacuum system (Please Help)

94 XJ vacuum system (Please Help)
Hello Everybody.
I recently purchased a 1994 xj with 166k miles. The owner had the car sitting outside for like 2 years, it turns on perfectly, but everytime I turn it on I hear like an air leak from somewhere right next to the heater core by the firewall. I guess one of those thin hoses is leaking. but my real question is if I can remove the entire vacuum system, if not should I leave the leak, would it affect anything? Sorry about the noob question. Thanks a lot in advance.
