Been running fine for last 2 months, drove it about 20 miles came to a stop and it died, got it started after a couple attempts and it was running rough and had no power, would get up to about 25mph tops after about a mile it smoothed out and power up ran great, that was sunday. Ran fine till Wed, let it warm up, headed to work and it stalled again at a stop light after about 5 miles of driving, got it started again, ran rough and no power for about 1/4 mile and then smoothed out ran fine to work. Got out of work warmed it up and drove it to bank 5 blocks away ran fine came out of bank started it and ran rough with no power, 25mph back to work and let it sit and took wifes car. Drove it home later that night, did not let it warm up and drove fine. Did not let it warm up today and drove fine to work and to home again...
Any Ideas 94 cherokee SE 4.0 6cyl auto 2 wheel drive.

 

What have you checked? there is several things that can cause this,cps,fuel pump,fuel filter,fuel pressure regulator,bad coil,bad cap and rotor,when electrical items get warm and not work as well due to increased resistance.

 

Have not checked anything yet, have a 2 month old and I watch her while my works evenings, so have not had time but will this weekend. The fuel tank, pump and filter are new as of summer so they should be fine. will look into the rest of what you listed this weekend and report back.

 

This is just me but it sounds like a fuel pressure problem. At the very least, by focusing on it, you aren't going to hurt anything except eliminating it.

 

I wouldnt think it would be intermittent like that or only after it has ran for at least 15-20 minutes... But I will check it out just to make sure.

 

My crankshaft position sensor went bad and gave me very similar problems.

 

Did it againthis morning but did not die, drove 2 miles shut it off at parts store came out and started up put it in gear and started the same chugging, no power but then came out of it 3 blocks later and ran good... going to look it over now...

 

My dad, retired Mechanic, came over to help me try and figure things out and we took it for a drive to get it warmed up and then shut it off restarted it and it acted up again then drove normal. Got it home shut it off then tried to restart it right away and it would not start, popped the hood for about 2-3 minutes tried again and it fired right up. said it sounded like a timing issue when it was turning over and would not start... going to order a CPS and pop that in when I have time...
