Default '93 mixed with '00...

Going to be helping a friend in the next few weeks do some XJ breading.

His original XJ is a '93 2 door 4.0 with 4 wheel and a 3in RE lift on it.

Well the engine blew...

He found a steel on an '00 4 door with a 4.0, one problem is its only 2 wheel drive. But its in great shape and he paid close to dirt for it.

So here is the plan. We are going to take the TC, front axle, and lift from the '93 and put it on the '00.

So the questions is where might we run into problems.

Possible areas that I see...
Different rear axles, if we use the '00 might be some gear issues with the '93 front. Might be better off taking both axles from the '93.
TC from the '93 bolting to the trans from the '00.

Anything that else that I should look out for?

Thanks!

Yeah a 2wd transmission is different then a 4wd trany so you're gonna need the tranny as well but the 93 tranny may not mate up with the newer 2000 model motor, computer and what not..I am sure someone who knows more will response to it but you will need a 4wd tranny for sure.

the difference between the 2wd and 4wd tranny is that the 2wd one has an extension so it seams a lil longer,, but you can check with jeepers creepers he is doing a swap,,, so maybe you dont need to change tranny just the adapter and stuff...

Hey Guys. Ok the the difference between a 2wd and a 4wd trannys are that the 4wd has an extension housing output shaft that bolts up to the transfer case. The 2wd output housing is tapered. Unfortunately you have to disassembly the tranny to replace the output shafts. Now as for the years, the transmissions are the same but the electrical is different. Now as for axles make sure the your gear ratio is the same. Cherokees came in a few different ratios. The front and rear HAS TO match so you will have to swap both front and rear axles. You will need to also swap over the tranny mount, Shift lever, front and rear drive shafts, transfer case and TC wiring harness. Now if your also swapping over the 3in. lift you may get a vibration so it might be a good idea to get a SYE. Thats only if you get a vibration. Every jeep is different. I hope I was some help. I'm sure someone else will give there 2 cents as well. So guys if I missed something please let HAVENSOV know.

I knew it had something to do with the output shaft but wasn't sure if a disassembly was needed to resolve that..Also I'd imagine his rear axle ratio on the 2000 is likely 3.55's like that 93..if they are keep the rear end of the 2000 since it is the newer 8.25 and stronger..There should be a tag on each one telling you what the gear ratio is..
