99 XJ exhaust bent - off road
So I replaced my exhaust from the Cat back. Then I went trailing a bit, and got stuck trying to cross a stream.
my only option was to be pulled out backwards. I knew the rear end was stuffed a bit in the side of the hill.
Pulled me out anyway, and this is the result.
The hangar broke off, and wrapped the pipe around the axle.
Obviously the stock downturn at the bumper isnt ideal. I was reading lots about dumping before the axle, but there are mixed reviews on here for it.
What do those who trail and keep their XJ for daily use do?

They dont actually sniff anymore in Ontario though, they just check to make sure the check engine light and ECU arent reporting any failures.
I just did the etest on this truck when I bought it about two months ago, and with exhaust leaks galore it passed. I'm not even sure they did a visual inspection... I wouldnt have passed it but its become a joke here.

Not sure it will stay this way, but Im going to try the dump before the axle.
The sound isnt bad, but I have a new muffler on (Walker econo - it was a long weekend and I was out of town when it fell off - I took what I could get). There are a few points where it drones.
If I'm smelling exhaust I will find a new solution.

oh yeah, you're right. i just live too far north. we don't e-test up here.
but when i was south, my 97 and older jeeps still tested the old way, so check engine light didn't matter, but my 99 and newer jeeps did the scan test.
so glad to not have to worry about testing no more.

Excellent way to fill the cab with exhaust fumes when windows are up, then you could take the "Long Dirt Nap"
This is not good for an SUV or XJ at all PU's OK.

Drove today for about 2 hours around town, windows up and down and no smell.
I do not like this solution, thats why I am asking for alternatives that you guys have tried. When googling/searching the forum, I saw this solution, or stock.
I may try a side dump, but I had to "fix" it short term, my exhaust guy is busy and cant take the jeep for a while. I want to know the best route before I go in there with it.

Thats what I am trying to do here. Please if anyone has a suggestion about how to route the exhaust without killing myself, and without it easily hanging up on obastacles like the stock, let me know.

I have my exhaust dumped underneath the cab like 1ft after the cat. Its fine. Not sure what everyone is whining about with fumes. If you're moving it's fine. If you're parked with the engine running for an hour it's not. But even then you won't die because the friggin Windows are rolled down. Not like you are dumping the exhaust inside the cab with the Windows rolled up.

Its odorless and tasteless that's why it is so dangerous and kills people every day.
If you want your $hit that way fine its you and yours lives, but never advise someone else to do something this stupid and tell them its fine, its not!
I lost a very close friend because of this very reason on a car in the winter with the window half way down, heater running he fell asleep....I carried his coffin because he wouldn't listen to me to and get it fixed, should have done for him.

Fred,
Sorry about your friend, I really am!
As for my exhaust, I have explained the problem clearly. I would prefer not to go back to the stock route. I have explained that I prefer not to dump my pipe where it is.
In the meantime, I am not idling anywhere, and I have no choice but to drive my truck. Once I get a solution figured out, it will be executed.
What I'm looking for is anyone who has done, or has an idea for, an alternate route. Thats all.
