Hey y’all, so i’m no professional, but i’ve been trying to replace the tcase on my 92 cherokee, it’s been a battle, but i’ve gotten pretty far, today i finally got the rounded bolt out of the old front driveshaft, so i was able to acess the old yoke, (the new tcase didn’t have a yoke on it), and able to access the lock nut. Now i have a new yoke and some locknuts, but i’m wondering if everything is right and if i should power the nut onto it. really any advice or information would be extremely helpful, thank you.
old yoke, with old locknut New yoke, with new locknuts new tcase hole got this from rock auto while looking for yokes, thought it was the one but it’s a bit different
There is supposed to be a rubber gasket that goes between the splines and the threads, but it's not 100% necessary. It might weep a little, so you could gob some RTV in that spot if you wanted.
There is a Torrington bearing on the shaft in the case. It does have the potential to drop, so be aware of that. If it did drop, it'll smash when you tighten the yoke on. I'd probably just put the yoke on and start snugging the nut a little at a time while spinning the yoke. If it binds up when you start to snug it up, you're catching the thrust bearing. If not, send it down with an impact.
