91 Cherokee 4.0 binding when cranking
I just replaced the distributor in my cherokee inline 6 and when I went to crank it, there was some occasional binding, definitely was not there before. Battery & starter OK. The distributor is keyed and is in correctly as far as I can see. Its not starting now.
Any ideas appreciated. Is it possible the oil pump went bad?
It does have over 200k miles but never any problems in the past.
Only replaced dist. pickup to try to solve intermittent hesitating

It is out of time, the binding is due to it firing out of time. you need to retime again,it is not that far off just be alittle more percise this time.
The other thing is do you have the wires on correctly? It will cause the samething.

Hi,
Thanks, that puts my mind at ease.
I didn't know In line 6 post Renix could be timed. The distrbutor doesn't really move and it fits in the block with a key. I'd be happy to trade any jeep parts if you can give me the highlights on how to time it.

The renix was not moveable either.
Also the dist was not removed until 2000.
The best tip I can give you is,once you have it a tdc, make sure it is at 0 degrees, use a 5/8 socket and breaker bar to move the engine to insure it is.
