Default 90 soft brake peddal

Picked up a 90 xj for my son, the rear brake line was rusted and leaking, so we replaced everything from the distibution block back (brake lines wheel cylinders spring kit) adjusted rear pads and bled brakes frront and back.
The peddal still has alot of travel I was thinking the master cylinder is bad but was wondering if the distribution block under the mastr cylinder could cause this. By the way someone has already eliminated the org. abs system and installed powerbooster for brakes.

Think you have the system bleed properly? Sounds like air in the system.

You said, "adjusted rear pads and bled brakes frront and back." That makes me wonder if you bled them in order? Pass rear, driver rear, pass front and driver front last. I'd assume you did, but I've seen some weird stuff on here ;-)

Do that first, then bleed the rest of the system.

Yep. I should have said to bleed the lines at the master cylinder last. IF needed. Sometimes I haven't had to.

I'm gonna bet the MC went dry during the repair. Bleed it first if possible. At this point, just frickin' bleed it, and then bleed the rest of the system in the order stated above.

Thanks for the advice, just finished rechecking back brake adjustment and bled master and all for wheels acording to sugestions twice, absolutly no air in system, brake peddal is hard before starting but goes soft after its fired up. So I guess that leaves the master cylinder I don't beleive the switch/ distibution block under the master could cause it.

I'm having a similar issue Jeff. My pedal isn't soft per se, but seems my effort is a little high for new brakes. New as in 3-4k miles. It stops, just not how quickly i believe it should. I'm wondering if the dist block/master cyl is an issue for me as well.

Single diaphragm booster system in xjs Cherokee suck plain and simple . when applying brakes how far down does pedal travel b4 forward motion starts to slow down.

We've had this xj for over a year my son did'nt get his his licence untill about 1 mo. ago, I have about 5 acres with some trails so he's drove it around here. It always had good peddal until now. It sat over the winter because of needing a new electric fan and switch. When we started working on it in the spring is when the other problems came up. This is the last thing to take care of so I can get him to quit driving mine
