90 aw4 transmission I CANT FIGURE THIS OUT
hey guys
i got a 90 aw4 auto trans. it shifts great but when your slowing down it wont shift down. I get this terrible shudder. It will sometimes shift down on its own. But i can down shift it manually and it works great. Any ideas before i have to take it to the transmission shop?

I'd start by checking the TPS....and the sensor ground circuit. There is a link to great stuff on that in my signature. You will need a digital volt meter to really do much with your Jeep...
I'm not to sharp on automatics. I do gather there is a switch on your brake petal that is suppose to make sure the torque converter doesn't stay locked up when you are trying to stop. I'd hazard a guess the TPS would tell the TCU to do the same when you don't have your foot on the gas.
