No, and the idle is controlled by the IAC.You can adjust the air bleed on the side of the TB to increase the idle speed but eventually the ECM will see it and correct for it . You can not get a decent read from a timming light on a Renix system Jeep If it runs ... Your good

Ok i need more thoughts. I think there's a good chance i had a brain fart. About 9 mo ago i got a rock behind my harmonic balancer and broke it. A hole about the size of a golf ball. So then i called my local buddy at the salvage yard and all he had was a 94 timing cover. Are the marks on a 94 different than the ones on a 89? If so that would be a problem.

Dad had a trick. Get#1 near the top, then use a piece of straw in the plug hole to find TDC. Not as messy as filling it with oil. Of course you don't want to end up with any straw in the cylinder.

Yup... I use a little screw driver. Straw is perfect though!

You can feed a length of small nylon cord/rope in there, turn the engine by hand till it's tight, then change your valve stem seals. Leave an end of the cord out.

I have used the rope trick on several motors to change umbrella seals. It works great. I also had a hollowed out spark plug with a small copper wire in it for finding tdc. When the wire went down the piston was coming up when it started to go down you just passed tdc. You could also hear the compression whistle a little bit through the spark plug.

Cute! I like that. I'll break down by a copper field next time!

Lol. Don't think i have ever had to check timing on the side of the road before. I also thought you meant a drinking straw. But there's plenty of the other straw around here too.

Straw would work in a pinch! Very creative!

I must be a redneck, too. I'm thinking of one from the hay field when I first read it....

I guess way back to curse someone you'd say "the pox on you"

Maybe today it would be "the points on you!"
