89 cherokee oil leak
I have a couple spots where oil is leaking. One spot under the car is a pretty consistant leak. Could anyone lead me to where it could be leaking and the one above the filter I am assuming is the oil pressure sending unit.

The best thing I could tell u is clean the whole area with a degreaser or cleaner and drive it... you'll be able to spot where its coming from, but it looks maybe the main seal on the 2nd pic the first not sure...

im thinking its the rear main seal. i did mess with the wire into the oil pressure sending unit, it did get that gauge working now, but it still slowly leaks there. would a bad main seal cause a pretty steady leak, so steady that its been driven once in 2 days and has sat and lost all the oil? if it wasnt so cold out, i would spray it down and check it out more, but the water would just freeze to the under body. ill also try tightening the valve cover bolts also.
right now, i am replacing the oil pressure sending unit, and the gaskets to the oil filter housing. next if that doesnt fix the problem and when it warms up, the rear main seal more then likely.

I'd start cleaning everything down and looking for the leak before assuming its the rear main seal. The valve cover gasket is an easy fix so I'd replace it anyway. Be careful not to over torque the valve cover bolts.. that could cause a leak too. Did you change your oil recently?

I'd be looking up ABOVE first, and VERIFYING the source of the oil leak YOURSELF.
Everybody, who doesn't own or have to pay for or perform your vehicle repairs, loves to poke their noggin UNDER the Jeep and come out bearing the false bad news that your RMS is leaking.
Many mechanics, friends, people on Jeep forums who can’t see your Jeep from where they’re at, and good old Uncle Bob seem to enjoy telling you it’s the rear main seal. Has a catastrophic ring to it, doesn’t it?
A simple leak at the back of the valve cover or other source could produce the same symptoms. You don’t need to be a mechanic to figure this out. If you have good eyesight and a dim flashlight, you’re good to go on your own. Don't jump on the RMS/oil pan gasket bandwagon right off the bat.
Almost any oil leak on your 4.0 is gonna drip from the RMS area for two simple reasons.
First off, the engine sits nose-up and any oil will run back to the RMS area. Secondly, the RMS area is also the lowest point on the engine. Simple physics and the old plumber's adage apply here. "$hit flows downhill".
Valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit, oil filter adapter seals and distributor gasket, in that order, have to be eliminated as possibilities first.

It's common for the O rings in the oil filter adapter to harden and leak. Oil blows right back and drips off the bell housing where a RM would leak. Check this out, (I'm not positive yours is identical)> http://www.myjeepxj.com/cherokee-rep...filter-adapter
Yea, you have a hex bolt, not a torx. Anyway it shows it...
