Default 89 cherokee 4.0 clattering in engine

my cherokee when i start it cold does a a quick clatter then goes away in a second and then as im driving the engine is quite but as the heat rises the engine starts to clatter with higher rpm and i noticed a signifigant drop in oil pressure too, and when i let off the gas at a parkinglot speed it clatters quickly then it fades out and when i go to hit the gas again it will be quite but as the rms get higher it will clatter. ive changed the oil pump and i heard oil stablizer would help but that didnt work at all, ive been chasing the problem for awhile looking for some outside opinions on what to do lol also when i start it when its cold it has good oil pressure and no noise but when the motor heats up the oil pressure drops and the noise gets worse, to me it seems like as the lower my pressure gets the worse the noise gets

What brand of oil filter is currently installed on your engine?

Try this. Replace just your oil filter with a Wix or Napa Gold. Top off your oil and then see what happens.

We all want to hear the result of changing filters. Do it soon and let us know.

What you're describing sounds a lot like the torque converter bolts to me. I had the same noise when starting and at lower rpm's, tightened the torque converter bolts and it's gone.

Does the clattering sound like it's coming from the bell housing?

Hopefully. OP mentions oil pressure loss combined with clatter though.

i cant really tell where the noise is coming from but the oil pressure is all over the place, cold it sits at 80 and stays there idling and driving, then when its warmed up good it runs at alittle below 40 and idling its at 20. the higher the temperature of the engine gets the lower my oil pressure is.

80 at idle is very high... cold or hot. Good rule of thumb is 10 psi for every 1k rpm. The oil pressure sending units like to flake out, and I personally don't trust them at all. Get a mech gauge and get a proper reading. From what you're saying it doesn't sound like you have a low oil pressure problem at all.

It only takes a few minutes to check your torque converter bolts. At the bottom of the bell housing behind your oil pan is an inspection plate, it's held in with 4 bolts. Remove it and check / tighten down your torque converter bolts on the flexplate.

Pressure seems about right to me. Check the bolts.

And, ditch the cheapy filter.
