Default 88 XJ No start Saga

Greetings...
I have a non running 1988 xj. i bought the thing non running with the idea of being able to get it running and have an inexpensive vehicle. The guy i bought it from had the same idea, he threw a handful of parts on it with out properly diagnosing anything and gave up.
i've been searching on this forum for a week or so compiling info and have spent a few hours here and there poking around the electrical system with a multimeter. here's where i stand right now....

new fuel pump
new cps
new knock sensor
new battery and cables
Also there is an extra used computer, not sure if it is good.

fuel pump is not kicking on, at wire harness volt meter shows 6.9v at middle wire (light brown) .5 at red/black, and black is ground

any body have a wire diagram of the fuel system?
cant afford the factory shop Manuel right now and the Chilton and heyes i have don't have the fuel specific diagram.

some help with this would be great! ive found a good amount of similar threads but not many happy endings.

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the links. The online manual is great.

tomorrow im borrowing a code reader, see if that gets me any where.

Any way to test to see if an ECU is good?

I have an 87 and 91. The 87 had 320 k miles on the original engine when a radiator leak and overheat took out the head gasket.
I had a problem earlier with the Renix system where it would do a no start sometimes. Finally traced it to a the sensor on the bell housing which senses the teeth in the ring gear. I don't know how, but it was intermittent, sometimes good sometimes bad. I had changed out the ignition module earlier to no avail. Strangely, once it was running it never failed, but sometimes it would not start.
My 91 has a totally different computer, but the Renix itself never failed.
The worst part of the 87 was the poor cooling system, best thing to do is to change the radiator over to a later model with a fill cap and dump the stupid expansion tank.

im not getting any power at my ballast resister, but i bypassed it anyway.

i think relay is good, its the middle relay of the three that are connected, located to right of engine, correct?

are you saying you cant use a code reader on these? i assumed thats what the ports are that have the yellow caps on them next to the relays, right of engine.

Great link to the fuel injection manual! that should give me something to chew on.

Well i was hoping to check for codes but looks like i might be going threw the relays and sensors one by one.

I'm a greenhorn in this company, but I don't think you are going anywhere with no power at the ballast resistor.

The diagnostic ports are for an.old test machine (can't remember the name to save my life) you can pick one up on eBay for about 1000$, trouble codes aren't stored you have to pull them real time. if you aren't getting and power to the ballast resistor move on to the starter relay as that's where the power comes from. It is a rectangle box near the battery with a bunch of wires going to it. Should have one screw terminal and 5 spade terminals. The renix system is really quite simple and straightforward.

ya these systems seem pretty simple. just new to me, ive deen a diesel man for a while now but so far these cherokees seem like good little rigs.

Im waiting for the right moment to strike. When my gf least expects it im gonna run out and take a look at stuff. I has issues with it recently. Ended up being the solenoid. Was broken inside. I rebuilt/fixed it myself. It should be putting voltage to that wire therefore it is probably bad.
