Oh I'm sorry. Your test you said was better than the ohms test. Yeah we did that but everything was good.

Define "good". What was the AC voltage output of the CPS?

Have you checked the speed at which your starter motor is cranking the engine? I believe it has to be turning at least 200 rpm's for the engine to get a spark.

OK. Please repeat the AC-Voltage test of the CPS output. Without a solid, repeatable test here, it's harder to move on.

s 270 ohms is borderline, (just a few %), within spec, and 5.3 AC volts is out to lunch. It may well be something else, but we Renix owners are lucky to be able to test our CPS, easily.

ok so sorry about that shot from the hip thing, yeah i redid the test and im recieving 0.0VAC on the harness side when i crank it over. And on the ohms test im getting 208 ohms. looks like its the CPS. I'll definately get that changed out here soon. Best place to buy one from?

Cool, progress, way to go. (and 208 ohms is more like it) NO! , not the harness side. You meter the CPS it's self while it's unplugged. It actually generates that (normally less than 1 volt), of AC current. (or should).

So below is some stuff on changing it IF it tests bad>>>>>

To change your CPS I found if you BACK the fronts onto ramps, you won't have them in the way, where you need to lay. A stand under the left front frame would be in your way.

If CPS itself is putting out less than .35 Volts AC, unplugged, while it's cranking with a good battery, or the resistance is not 200 ohm's plus/minus 75, hot;

11mm socket > 3 inch extension > universal > long (18-24 inches of extension). Your feet are sticking out under the passenger side, you can reach up past the front drive-line with your left hand to hold the CPS from the front. Your right hand is on the ratchet way back by the tranny cross member. If you tie a long string on the old plug, you can use it to haul up the new. Toss that piece of plastic if it's still there, and do not drop the bolts in there! Echlin # CSS980, (from Napa, for 87-90), should be fine, but some prefer to go to Jeep. I wouldn't bother with anything else for that.

If your left forearm is bigger than a quart Mason jar, you might consider removing the front drive-line. Also You might cut your old CPS wires if they go through a deal on a bell housing bolt, then be sure your new are held somewhere safe.

The second one is REALLY easy!

Forget ohms altogether and use the AC volts scale.

Test it at the CPS's plug while unplugged from the engine harness while cranking the engine over.
