X2! been through a few bottles. And yea, of course normal stuff. Couple starters, a water pump, U-joints... ect . All good, normal. (or better). And my hat is off to Jeep's suspension! Ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, steering box. I do have a little extra play in the wheel. (I'm told, didn't notice myself). All good. Am thinking of adding an inline rad cap and recovery bottle. Maybe when my bottle blows again.

Or possibly you could do an open system conversion and never mess with another damn bottle again. Just a suggestion...

It for sure sounds like a good idea to have an open system swap done.

I did it to my monster truck Jeep after i blew the head gasket getting the damn thing hot. Never had a problem agian. This thing would overheat in 13 degree weather, just depended on how long you sat still

""Am thinking of adding an inline rad cap and recovery bottle.""
Whoops, meant tank, not bottle. Yea, agreed. On the Chevy as well. The 350 I put in my Jag gives me nothing but smiles.

The Renix has a cool feature. It will advance the timing until the knock sensor tells it it's enough. That combined with your improved HO head, (they raised/improved the intake), sounds sweet. (to me). Just read that Renix might actually get better "economy" on premium, since it can run more advance. I'm sure the Renix Map/O2 sensors can adjust your fuel mix just fine. Also you can test a Renix CPS in under three minutes with a $5 meter. There isn't a good test for the newer, unless you count your gauges sometimes goen goofy. And the ballast resistor? Crusier worked at the Jeep dealership as a teck. Says after 87 owners complained of a noisy fuel pump it was added. Just can it if you want. Then there is the fact that we are using them, and passing smog tests 25 years later...Garbage? NOT!!!

The timing advance thing sounds like a LS based Chevy to me. All my Renix Jeeps got around 13 mpg down hill with the engine off INCLUDING the MJ I had with a HO block swap. My 97 runs off and leaves my buddy's Renix Jeep like it's going the other direction so honestly the timing advance thing doesn't make me too jealous. I have a Walbro racing pump in mine cuz the stock one was weak from sitting for 2 years with no gas in it and I have buddies with a race shop that can give me the hook up. Anyways I like the sound of the noisy pump cuz it lets me know it's working and that it's working good. I can put stand alone piggyback fuel systems and turbos and all that nonsense on it if this is a gas mileage/power game but then agian I could do the same thing to my grandma's minivan and even your Renix. Once again I'll say I've had plenty of both vehicles and the Renix ones simply don't impress me. I'm sure your Jeep runs fine and is well maintained and has been taken care of but I like to get 20 mpg while driving like I stole it and destroyin mud holes/snow drifts/front yards and not having to replace parts left and right and back up on the trail to pick up something that fell off. My 97 does what I want it to and does it well so that's what I'll be sticking to. I paid all of $700 for the thing and I try to blow it up like every day so I think it's been a pretty damn reliable play thing for me to have fun in. Only wish the Commanche survived as long as the Cherokee

well guys I learned a lot from starting this thread. I want a MJ really bad. I called on the 88 Ive been asking about and this is what I learned.

So the guy towed it from texas. He thought it was just like any other truck. He had no idea about it being a uni-truck. He bought it not running. He planned on, in his OWN words "I was just gonna buy a cherokee, knock it off the frame, and put the comanchee body on it. Then I realized it was a unitized truck." I was trying not laugh. So I asked what all it needed to be done, cause I was to understand it just needed a block. NOPE. Turns out the truck was in a flood. The motor had more water then oil in it, the harness is shot, and the interior smells like a wet dog and needs replaced. He swears though that the truck is rust free?!?! So I asked, what is your bottom price you gotta have for it. He stayed at $1500. I cant spend that much on something I have to do that much work to. So if anybody in the michigan area would like to try to buy this MJ. Heres the Link
