I really appreciate all the info guys. I was a little put off by thinking a full swap was needed. If I can get away with a simple block swap, then Im going to be trying to get this motion.
My point for doing the full swap is so you have all your parts together with daignosable ecu and all the power and gas mileage that comes with the stock tune. Putting the HO motor in with the renix computer will work but there's a tumble weed of fuses and solenoid and a damn fuel pump ballast you have to deal with. Not to mention you don't have the full potential of the engine available when the computer thinks it's still a non HO. Idk if the MJ has an auto or standard but the pugeot would be junk with the stock engine in front of it and the smaller AW4 probably couldn't take the stress of the more powerful engine IMO. You can of course do what you feel is best but if it was mine, I would want every later model piece I could get in it. As you can see in the list of former vehicles I've had in the last 10 years in my sig, I know my way around both designs and I absolutely despise RENIX stuff. Most people that stand behind them have never owned a newer model. I'd rather have primarily Chrysler stuff than Just Everybody Else's Parts (JEEP)

well I would think that newer system would be better. I would rather do the swap, but my donor xj, is my only set of wheels right now. Im laid off at the moment for the winter season. I go back to work in april... so I would rather just swap the blocks and have her rollin. A possible full swap would be in the future. Who knows, I really like the looks of the 97+ swapped into the mj's

I love this forum! Here, let me list all the sensor and computer problems I've had with my Renix in 12 years. Here we go; #1 installed an 02 sensor prior to taking in to be smoged when I bought it. #2 installed a CPS last week. Darn thing is breaking me.
Only 264K and there is a little blow-by already!
I'm sure the newer are fine. OBD II anyway. Renix does seem to work OK as well. (18-19 MPG Btw on a recent 1000 mi road trip)

If anything maybe you could buy it and turn around and sell it for a profit to a MJ fanatic
Jk jk. I'd keep it no matter what and figure something out if I were you. Those are awesome trucks. No wonder Chrysler ceased production of them immediately after getting their greedy little hands on them. Killed out one of their own competitors in the mid size truck industry. BASTARDS

I can surely attest they are hardy. I'm three miles up a steep gravel road. (1,500 ft climb)
"Bumpy" does not describe well it at all. Gads. I just put down the calculator. At least 1,600 trips. Both ways that's over 3,200 passes! No wonder the uni-body is starting to crack. (all over). One of these days it might just crumble to dust, and all that will be left in tact is the Renix system!
