Default 88 Cherokee with hard engine knock

Alright, I was working on my Jeep the other day and went to turn in on and got this awesome noise...
Earler that day I started it up and it ran just fine. Based on a visual check nothing is hitting, im going to check my flex plate later today to rule that out. But I need to find out what this noise is before i head back to school.

Sounds like there is some play in the lifters/rocker arms somewhere

Did the check, nothing moves however the intake rod on cylinder 6 has some odd wearing on it. Also found some plastic bits next to that rod.

I'm guessing worn guide seal? That would explain the bits and would explain the noise.

I really doubt a valve guide seal will make any noise.

Have you checked your oil level?

Yes, it's around where it normally is and oil pressure is about 60 psi cold. Wondering why do you ask?

it's not the seal itself, it's the metal around it that could be chattering being the seal is gone

?? Well let us know! Did it poke through the block? (normally a "clearanced" rod bearing would be loud at the pan, not the valve cover.)

It's going to be a while before I find out if any damage has happened since I have to go back to collage in less than 36 hours. I feel like it's not enough time to get something going. I'll let everybody know what's going on as soon as I find out!

It's hard to tell in the video.

In the video it sure doesn't sound like a broken rod flailing around your block.

I personally have never seen a "thrown rod" without accompanying holes in the oil pan or block which will be spewing oil out of them.

The reason I asked about oil level is because it only sounded like a ticking which could happen if you were very low on oil.

True and this is something that I really just need to take it apart and physically see what's going on. Gotcha, that makes sense.
