87 Jeep cranking but not starting
Newbie here. I have a 87 Cherokee. 4.0 motor. I just changed out the Crankcase Position sensor. Now all it wants to do is crank. I can smell gas so I know its getting fuel. Any ideas?
Fuel filter changed
Changed out distributor and rotor
Crankcase position sensor.
Throttle position sensor need changing?
The clues on why I changed the CPS...Hard starting, running rough, I could accelerate but then it would just give out.
Couldn't get a code due to no lights. couldn't afford a mechanic, just doing lots of reading on the net. After I finish everything...maybe I could afford a mechanic

To eliminate the crankshaft position sensor, can you put the old one in an test it out. If the old one works then either there is something wrong with the new sensor or something else. That's my only suggestion

If it was starting with the old CPS do like doral330 said. Put the old one back on and see if it runs. If so you probably got a bad CPS. Also where did you get the new CPS from? If bought a after market one and not an OEM that would more then likely be your problem. After market one are hit and miss with more misses then hit.

If CPS is bad, you would get no fuel, therefore couldn't smell it.
Do you have a multi-meter?

Alright cruiser is probably right. He's right about literally everything. So it could be the TPS or the Cam Position Sensor. I know if I unplug mine the engine won't start up. I don't know if gas is still being pumped though. I have to take my CPS off to clean it all out

Finally was able to chat and learn a few things tonight. Turns out it may be the fuel pump. He put a meter on it and no pressure. The pump is turning on but may not be creating enough pressure.
