Did you fully remove the distributor from the jeep? If so you'll need to set the distributor timing.
Set the motor to TDC and then drop the distributor in making sure the rotor points at cyl 1 once installed. You may need to involve a timing gun once its running again, i'm not sure how "smart" the 2.8l engine control units were.
If you didn't remove the distributor then check your sparkplug firing order and make sure that's right.

as for the oil pump rod, no as long as its engaging the pump its fine.
I just re read my thread here, and I did not remove the distributor when I replaced the ICM ... I just removed the cap and rotor.....so no need to pull the distributor out right.....i just dont understand why its popping back through carb and not starting after i replaced the icm
