I find it unusual that there is no secondary fuel metering involved and it seems controlled strictly by linkage and vacuum pots. Also, did you get the power piston and metering rod adjusted the way it was when you took it apart? Your picture made it look like it was a different height.
You can make that choke coil adjustable by breaking out the tenon. When that carb was produced, GM and the EPA didn't want anybody messing with the idle mixture or the choke setting.
I have an 85 with the same set up, only mine has AC. Thanks for the resource on the carb overhaul it's very helpful! Also I have to agree with the guy who commented on the air cleaner parts. While the TVS's are easily replaced the rest is impossible so be VERY careful when removing them particularly the plastic ones! Mine were missing for years until I stumbled on a guy who happened to save them.
I rebuilt one of those on a California ‘83 S-10 years ago. Setting the angles on the vacuum breaks was fun. I put a hole in the small rectangular screen on top so I could adjust the mixture needle easily after it was reassembled.
The stock fuel filter was always sufficient for me. It’s just awkward to get to.
Hey Benjamin, First of all thanks for the reference/tutorial. I found one on Ebay for $50 and free shipping so I thought a spare would be very nice to keep on hand. So I'm going to give it a try, Are there any special tools that I should get b4 I get started. I already have a Tomco rebuild kit. Thanks any hints would be helpful too!
