Default 5th time i got CEL HELP!!

My 2000 cherokee keeps getting check engine light i have gone to my local garage and had them run the code and i keep getting large evap leak they say gas cap so i get new gas cap then the most recent time they say vacuum hose leak where should i look for leak at

Open the hood and see if you can hear it.

find a shop that can do a smoke test on your evap system. that is how I was able to find my bad vac hose.

my dad had a 2000 dakota and it would get a check engine light if the gas cap was not tight enough.

before you take it some were and pay some one for something simple. grab a flash light, roll under you jeep in the back. you will see the charcoal canister (black on in front of the tank, on the drivers side If I remember correctly. looks like this.... (ignore red writing, black writing is it)



make sure none of the hoses are off. or torn like this.

Thanks i will check that but it sounds like a ticking noise is coming from the evap service point under the hood didnt get time to look at it think that could be the problem

A picture is worth a thousand words. I have the same issue and these pictures lead me right to the source of the problem. Thanks.

I got the same problem on my cherokee 2000 sport. Now i am smelling gas in the cabin. Don't see any gas leaking underneath anywhere. Although the first time the code came up i did not smell any gas and the code went away for a while ( about a month) after i checked all the hoses and gas cap.

You won't see it leaking its vapor. That's why its called evaporative
