If I park my 94 5 speed on a hill it will roll. Is this due to low compression or could it be something else. It seems to run just fine so I don't know if it would be compression. It has 307k miles. The e brake doesn't do much.

do you have it in gear when its rolling??

go adjust the ebrake then??

if its rolling in gear then ya id guess low compression..
or slipping in your transmission.
307k is pretty maxed out for the 4.0l's

try a compression test.
& leakage test.

I "think" that is why it's called a "parking brake".

Mine with 336k i can park it on hill and just rely on the trans but the mj with 222k will roll so i agree with above do a compression test and adjust the ebrake and you should be fine

Repair the parking brake before it gets away from you & crashes into something/someone.

If the parking brake "doesn't do much", that would indicate your back brakes aren't doing much.
I know you don't need to hear this from me, but you need to do something about the brakes before somebody gets hurt.

My Comanchee used to go wandering off (while in gear) shortly before the top end went, so yeah, probably a compression issue.

Not really it probly just needs adjusted. You can either adjust the cable itself if your lifted or the turnbuckle came loose some how or you can adjust the adjustment screw at the drum on either side

Fix the parking brake. Also try putting the Jeep in reverse, instead of 1st gear.

Lifting the jeep would tighten the e-brake cable, not loosen it
...and from the evasive nature of his responses, I'd say he knows what's up with the parking brake.

How big is the hill? If your parking on a 60* slope then it should be expected.
