I got my red one in the y plug and I'm clueless where it goes. I know one is to the manifold and the second one? Not only that I got a plug on the tranfer case

My guess. In 2wd the vacuum switsh hplds it disingauged, (no vauuum to the 4 wd light) . When 4 wd is sellected, vacuum is cut there and applied to the other port on the disco. (that moves it). THEN, AFTER, the fork has moved the sleve vacuum is directed uo to the switch (see ohoto) to turn on the 4 wd light. .
Like wiring, dont let it seem too much, just handle one thing at a tome till they are allright!

The Y plug you're referring to IS the manifold vacuum, so you've got that connected.
The other end of the red tube plugs into the transmission plug.
Does anyone know if you can still buy that vacuum harness? I bought one years ago when I was troubleshooting my 4WD problems on my Wrangler, but I haven't been able to find them now.

Why in the world are you guys torturing yourselves trying to fix a pi$$-poor design? Do this and be done with it. Never get stranded by an engineeering debacle again.

agreed. i've had to go back in there a couple times since to replace a broken fork, but its still worth the money i save on Advil. i have noticed a few different fork designs too. all were from the junk yard, so i dont know which were oem or not, but the latest one i have is significanty beefier than the two previous ones with next to new wear pads too!
Hence, get rid of that crap. Only time it's gonna fail is when you need it the most...........

I'm trying to restore my vehicle back to stock as much as possible. Getting the 4WD to function as it did when new is part of that.
Cruiser, you throw up a lot of great stuff, thanks for that. But these things get bad enough mileage as it is, without having a whole bunch of extra parts dragging it down any more. (Gas is over 6 bucks a gal. here)

Jeeps with the NP242 transfer case didn't even have CAD. Same fuel mileage. Hmmm?
I got to see all those customers on a snow day, all pissed when their 4wd didn't work when they were counting on it. Between 5 and 10 of them every snow day. I especially remember the guy whose Jeep we had to spend about $1000 on to get it dried out because he thought he was in 4wd, but wasn't. Drove through a small creek and got stuck in the middle with his whole family.
To each his own is right. Risk versus benefit.
You want mileage? Install one of these where you can see it easily in your cab.
Here's your instructions:

It doesn't change the mileage a bit. The factory eliminated it in mid 91.

Like I said, my goal is to get it back to stock as much as possible, but I can tell ya this, I'm not going to knock myself out if I can't get it to work like it's supposed to.
Like you said, it's only a half an hour and a couple of wrenches to put the whole issue to bed.
I'm gonna take you up on your recommendation. Is there any vacuum guage you've got experience with that you'd recommend?

The red tube is the connection between the manifold and the transmission.
