Default 4wd trouble

When I try to go from 2W to 4W it is extremly difficult to pull the handle, especially up to 4 low. does anyone know why this might be?

Thx, Ryan

I've only had problems going from 4WD to 2WD and that's usually because things are bound up. Not sure about the other way around though.

try putting the transmission in neutral and doing it especially in to 4LO also your tcase linkage might be binding possibly bad bushings they can be had at your dealer for a couple of bucks

Mine shifts in and out easier while moving at a crawl. Guess the splined shaft lets the gear slide easier while it is rotating. Each XJ may vary some from the next but mine requires movement to engage and to disengage.

Have no clue to why it does that. Mine on the other hand pops out of 4L if i don't hold it for like 5 seconds.

Depends on who you ask. Some people have said you don't even need to slow down to go in and out of 4 hi, just because of the fact that gear ratios don't change. I've never tried it, I usually stop, or at least slow to a crawl before messing with it.
