I also have this problem but as far as to answer you question I am unsure. I did read a thread where a guy replaced some plastic ring or something and I works for him now.
Mine only does it for a bit when I try to engage it but its never popped out after its locked in though wish I could help more. I'm sure someone will chime in.

Yep. And make sure your engine and trans mounts aren't shot. You'll be right there to check them when you're looking at the linkage.

HAAA HAAA HAAAA!
I had to do that yesterday. But the damn skunk already sprayed the dogs. And it sucked having to wash all four of the dog with tomato juice to get them clean.

1 part apple cider vinegar to 2 parts water in a spray bottle. Works great directly on the dogs.

Especially if you have to spray furniture that the dogs got on before you could de-skunk them.

Sorry for the tread jacking.
I never tried that one. But I will. That wasn't the first time a skunk got them and I know it won't be the last!
Thanks for the info.

if you take the center console off and look at the 4wd lever you will see notches there that will need to be notched a little more and you should be good i had the same problem but dont notch to much

Maybe after verifying the bushings are good, and using the proper shifting procedure.
