Default Engine swap, temp sensor relocation?

Just swapped 4.0 out of a 98 into my 92. Used all my sensors, distributor etc. Runs fine but I obviously have no temp gauge. I've seen where people have drilled into the thermostat housing and put the sensor there, but what have others done? What will give me the best reading? I live in central California, it ran a bit hot before the swap, (entire cooling system is less than 3 months old) but my aux fan turned on after a few minutes of it idling. I haven't burped the cooling system yet so that could very well explain the aux fan turning on, however I need an accurate temp gauge.

One of these, with the sending unit mounted in heater hose close to the t-stat cover, should work great.
