I just took apart and cleaned the NSS on My 98 XJ auto. and that was 3 days ago and yesterday it threw a code, p0700, i looked it up and it has something to do with the transmission but its not specific. any ideas as if cleaning th NSS could of done something?

 

That code means "range selector fault"


1. Check the range sensor input in all of the different gear shift selector positions.

2. The Brown/Light Green wire should have 12 volts in reverse.

3. The Light Green/Black wire has 12 volts in overdrive.

4. The Violet wire has 12 volts in drive 3.

5. The Violet/White wire has 12 volts in first and second.

6. The White wire has 12 volts any time the key is on.

7. The Black/White wire is grounded in park or neutral.

If any of these wires have the correct voltage, then replace the NSS, because it was failing prior to you cleaning it, many times cleaning it just ends it's life that much sooner. If the voltages are not correct, check that the wires are not damaged or broken, and that the pins are fully seated in the connector
