Can barely turn, and there was this large clunk. Could these be the problem? The steering was jerking around while I tried to do a u turn. Theres alot more that happened but my phone crapped out after typing for a good 5 minutes

 

if they are loose, yes. but there are SO many other things that can "clunk" in a front end. you need to have someone turn the wheel lock to lock with you looking at all of your joints (trac bar to frame, trac bar to axle, tierod, draglink, etc.)

 

Don't use 4wd on pavement.

Your u-joint looks kind of not good... I'm assuming you were not on pavement in 4HI?

 

I was on pavement :/ thanks for the responses guys. Ill try it on dirt later. Will that help the turning possibly?

 

Yes, unless you have full time 4x4 (np242) do not use 4hi/lo on pavement.

 

As mentioned unless you have the full time option on the transfer case shifter do not use 4wd on pavement. What happens is your transfer case is trying to turn the front and rear axles at the same speed. When you turn your front tires turn at different speed than the rear (and different speed than each other), if the front tires can not slip (as they would off road) they will bind the drivetrain and could damage the transfer case.

Yes it does, thanks a bunch! No more mall crawling for me haha. Tried it on dirt, snug as a bug turned just fine! That passenger u joint is thunking a bit so I'll have to fix that. Do those joints have a special name? I'm not very familiar with anything below the trac bar haha

 

Axle Shaft u-joint is typically acceptable.

 

I would try to avoid any sharp turns in 4 wheel drive if possible.
