I have a 1996 XJ 4.0, auto, stock that the motor went south on & have found a 1988 XJ, auto, which I believe has a Renix motor- whole car for $500- & am wondering how difficult the motor swap will be ? I have good mechanical skills, but am sadly lacking in the computer, electronic, end of things. can I swap whole Renix motor- w/intake- dist- exhaust manifold, etc ? or do all sensors need to be exchanged from 4.0 H0 to the renix ? I could really use some help, searched, but only found Renix to 4.0 HO swap not 4.0 HO to Renix swap. This is daughters car & has limited budget & was the only thing I could find with in 50 miles. I am 68 yrs. old & have not done an engine swap in 25 yrs., so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, stormy

 

They will swap, you have to strip the remix motor down to just the block basically, then use all the accessories, wiring, ignition system, intake manifold, injectors, computer and sensors from the 96.

 

I had read somewhere searching for info,that the intake manifold gaskets are a little different, any thoughts ? I have everything off '96 motor, so no problem there, but would like to get this right first time, Daughter is driving my Jeep & I want it back asap.thanks, stormy

 

You may have to swap the head also. I'm not very knowledgeable about the renix engines, I haven't worked on them much. I know the blocks themselves are the same.
