If I were to work a four cylinder I would do the following:
Cheap Stage
Intake
Exhaust
High Flow Cat
New Plugs and Wires
Expensive
MSD Ignition box, open the plug gap up some
MSD Coil
A little more gearing..
Head to your local pick and pull, get a cylinder head, clean it up, Gasket match and DIY port and polish. A buddy did that to his head on a older dodge Shelby and it helped. He then had it decked and valve job done. Head was like 25 bucks and all the other work I think added to about 180.
