check out novak-adapt.com & advanceadapter.com, alotta good info there. You could buy a 4.9 Stroker ready to plunk in for the price just the swap materials would cost. Wouldn't have to worry about wiring, gauges, adapters, anything of that nature just a few simple fuel upgrades. Any paticular reason your wanting to do the swap?

Really just so i can get more torque and power out of it and im going to convert my trans to a muncie sm465 4 speed manual trans, so i figured i might as well try to do it at the same time. But i looked at Novak conversions and it did give me a lot of info about it ,thanks. I wasn't worried about it fitting i've done enough engine drops in olders cars to know that it would fit, i just wasn't too sure about the computer aspect.

I would leave the PDC/Relay box under the hood there so that way all your body functions/controls would still work. I had looked in SBC/LSx swaps myself ahving done 2 S-10 SBC swaps. If I was going throught he hassle I would go ahead with a EFI swap, for teh price of LSx's no (5.3/4.8/6.0/etc..) You can get a 5.3 Truck engine for around $350 on Ebay or local u-pick-u-pull. Throw a LS1 intake and accessories and have a 350hp EFI late model engine for under $1000 with extremely low miles and big upgrade options. Just my opinion though

With just the mounts, radiator, and adapter to keep the Jeep T-Case or Tranny, thats a little over $1500. Thats what a Complete 5.3l/6.0 Vortec Dropeout with tranny and accessories. Right there's $3k, and yet your still need to convert from truck accessories (too tall) and the intake, wiring, and a few other odds and ends.
Dnt get me wrong it'd be a killer swap, I've thought about it myself many of times if I had a extra DD and the cash to throw at it. But for $3500 you can get a 4.9L Jeep Stroker with little over 300hp to the crank and bolts right in no modification necessary.

I can tell you from experience, that the biggest problem to just dropping a V8 or V anything is that the underhood area doesn't breath. It will get so hot under there you will loose head gaskets in the rear of the motor repeatedly, not to mention melting a few things. You are going to have to do some major venting, get a custom radiator, lots of fan and probably an engine oil cooler also. XJs are just not quite wide enough for V8s.
