Default 3000 RPM

Ok so recently my 89 cherokee has been reving at 3000. When I start it is when. Sometimes if I turn it on and off it will lower but sometimes like tonight it stayed there. The motor was already hot. I had to drive with it trying to rev up to 3000. I was tinkg like an electronic choke for when the motor is cold to heat it up. Does anyone have an Idea?

TPS... throttle position sensor... would be my start... i would start by pulling it and cleaning it first... then maybe run some seafoam through the TB... still no good then i would probly replace the TPS... normally they cause that...

My 89' did this same thing. I had to reset the TPS. After that problem went away.

I am still kinda having this problem randomly. Some time y jeep revs at like 1.5 and it fluctuates. Is it poss that I need to replace the tps? If so how b/c as far as I know they have to sit just perfect for it to send the right signal.

Mine is also doing it but only 2000 rpm. I have yet to reset my TPS but I am constantly unplugging it and blowing it out. So I know that is my problem.

Mine usually does it when it is HOT also.

I am 99% sure it is my TPS.

loosen the bolts and adjust it,i do not recall wich way but it will either go up in idle or down, but if you get it out to far it will also effect the way the trany shifts, mine just started doing it again yesterday, but it only goes to 2,000 for a bit then drops down.
