x2 on the spring compressor, makes it 1000 times easier. if not jack up the oppisite side all the way and try to jam it in there

I put 2" spacers in my '01. I didn't have spring compressors, so I used a giant pair of channel locks to compress it a little at a time, and zip ties to hold it so I could go to the next spot. What a pain! It did the job, but I have since purchased spring compressors.

Also, you can unscrew the bump stop and that will give you a few extra inches of clearance. Just be sure to throw it inside the spring before you put it back in. Then after you get the spring in and release the tension you can work the bump stop back into place and tighten it with some chanel locks.

Ive heard of people on here using ratchet straps to get springs in. But your best bet is to go to auto zone and rent the spring compressors

Yikes, the whole zip tie thing is scary.

PLEASE be very careful with springs and spring compressors. A coil spring holds up your entire front end. When you compress it, that is a lot of stored energy being released at once.

I had a guy come into my ICU that had a spring compressor let loose on him. He broke 2 ribs and had a punctured lung. He spend a few days in ICU really messed up. He was lucky and only the spring got him. A piece of the compressor launched across his garage and cracked the block wall. They are no joke

Autozone and pepboys both loan tools. You can get a pair of spring compressors from either. The way it works is you "buy" the tool, use it, and then return it for full refund.

Compress those bad boys a few inches and they should pop right in

easy way

1 undo swaybar and shock
2 make the jeep flex all the way out
3 spring falls out
4 slide on spacer
5 slide spring as far up as you can
6 put two crow bars across the tire and lift the spring up in to place
7 put the swaybar and shock back on

well thanks guys for all the info
but i never got back on to see what yall posted
i got the coil springs back in with brute force lol
i unbolted the lower control arms and dropped the front axle as far as it would go without putting to much tention on the brake lines
then i put the top of the spring in and then i pushed all i could which was about 2 inches and i got the spring in
it was a pain in the ***
the only other problem i had was when i was trying to put it all back together i had a problem with the front axle after i removed the lower control arms the axle shifted out of its spot it to me forever to turn the axle back the ryte way to get the lower control arms back on

I got some V8-ZJ coils from the junkyard. I unbolted the swaybar, cut the brake lines, (you can just unbolt the calipers & hang them out of the way with coat hangers)

Then I unbolted the lower shock mounts. Using a scissor jack from the trunk of an old dodge, I jacked the front axle down a ways (Not even all the way) until the springs fell out. I have yet to install them with spacers in my XJ, but have been told my method will also work for that.

I guess you could also use a bottle jack, but be careful neither jack slips out. Maybe even wire it to the truck to keep it from flying out if it slips.
