3 inch blocks
Hey guys I have a 1990 XJ with now lift but cut fenders. I can run 33 X12.50 with no rubbing. I recently bought a lift and it comes with 3 inch blocks for the rear. I have heard mixed reveiws about blocks, but just seeing what you guys have to say about them. the lift is a 3 inch all around lift, so any input from you guys would be great.

welcome to CF. Blocks allow more bending or wrapping of the leafs. it adds leverage to the axle and when you step into it more the axle will twist wrapping the leaf in a fashion around the axle. This is bad. I have seen people run blocks and have little to no problems. However I have seen catastrophic failures with the leaf springs actually snapping. This is my .02 cents though.

I personally stay away from blocks bc IMO they just have to many disadvantages over advantages. If you already bought the kit I say just run the blocks for a while untill you can get a full leaf pack.

you will get mixed feelings about the use of blocks, im one of the older guys on here ,ive seen blocks used for over thirty years . They have been around longer than most people on here have been alive. I have used them on all three of my 4x4s 79 bronco 8inch lift w38s,81 toyota with 8 inch lift and now with my xj 10.5 inch lift with 38s. they should not be to tall 4 inch is the highest i would ever use ive seen people use taller one stacked together ,i dont see that being safe, and dont recomend it . as long as your springs are not sagging and they are same width as the leafs follow the directions and tighten them good and check them often because the u bolts will strech after a while you should be ok .I do recomend the use of lock washers thisis just a pet peve of mine ,ilock washer ever thing i bolt on. as with any mod of the stock set up there are pros and cons axle wrap is present from the factory addin block to weak and sagging springs will increase the chances of breakage. to me im from fl most of these guys on here are from up north i think is crazier to drive up the side of moutains with any vechicle alot of time resulting in roll overs but thats where they wheel just remember you always have the chance of breakage with any mods

Thanks for all the advice. I plan on upgrading soon. I am stationed on guam and it is very hard to get parts over here. so I have to watch how much I spend on shipping. once again thank you for the warm welcome and all the advice.

For just cruising & some light wheeling, blocks will be OK.
Google "Bastard Pack" & you'll see a better way to get 3" of lift in the back.
If they have a junkyard on Guam, maybe you can find an S-10, a Dodge Dakota, or an Isuzu rodeo to get the leafs off of. Also the rodeo has rear bump stops that fit my 1998 XJ.
