Default 3 CATALYTIC converters pros & cons

I am looking for another Cherokee Grand or XJ . I have noticed some 2000 and on that I have test drove have 3 CATS. The ones with 3 cats did not seem to have the Power that the ones with 1 cat have. What years have 3 cats and what years Dont. And there is that 0331 head thing too What years have that Head?

I have a 2000 XJ that only has 1 cat. Its build date was 11/99. I believe the 3 cat setup started around the February of 2000 time frame, plus or minus a month or two.

Can't speak for the Grand Cherokees but an '00 XJ can have one or three.
One means it is a Federal Emissions one. Just the cat in front of the muffler
Three means CA Emissions. One just like the Federal Emissions '00 and the dual front cat.
With the Federal Emissions one there will be a Y Pipe in place of the dual front cat.
All '01's are CA Emissions.
My Experience is more with one that have the later build dates. 1/21/00 and after.
Not sure what the deal is with build dates earlier then that.
Except that instead of flanges the pipe mostly slip on.
Both will have the 0331 head unless somebody already swapped it out.

I sold my 2000 XJ after replacing the 0331 Head .Then the XJ over heated and cracked on that guy. I mainly just did not like the 2 Door. I had one years ago and sold it for a 4 door.

You replaced it with another 0331, right? Did you help that guy out after you sold him a bad Jeep?

You installed a questionable 0331 head, so that wasn't much of a surprise. How much time and money did you put into that one before you dumped it on an unsuspecting buyer? You really need to stop shopping for 2000 XJs that have known bad heads. Or at least stop buying and putting money into used 0331 heads hoping they'll be okay.
