Every once and a while, usually after I've been driving on the expressway for about 20 minutes (home from work), after I accelerate from a complete stop, i get 3-5 knocks and can feel them easily under my feet. If i accelerate harder it seems a bit harder and loader. I'm not a mechanic, but I know a little, and I've crawled underneath and cant seem to notice anything out of the ordinary.

I have a 97 XJ Sport... Any ideas? Again its usually only after getting off the express way (has happend other times), and accelerating from a complete stop. It doesn't do it all that much. Ujoints seem solid, and from what i can tell, the bushings look good.

Thanks!
Was hoping you found a solution to this problem, as I too am experiencing the same exact knocking as you describe. This was the only post that addresses my problem!!

Upper control arm is hella rusted and appears twisted compared to the passenger side... replacing them is fairly cheap and easy? i would assume... could be a good starting point. Thankyou for the suggestion!

I recently had a knock/vibration in the same kind of circumstances but managed to narrow the sound down more towards the rear.
I believe the crusty, cruddy old brake shoes weren't pulling away from the drum when I went from brake pedal to accelerator when stationary.
After I disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the drum brake the knocking stopped.
Easy and free - might be worth a look.

The twist in arm will change the length and affect alignment/handling.
The stock arms are flimsy, but inexpensive. Will have one busing in them, other bushings are mounted in top of axle. Will have to change those out also.

That is certainly worth a look. I will inspect the drums and clean as you have mentioned. Regardless they could use it after 144k as the PO certainly did little to no maintenance.

Like most of this guys said, it may be the muffler mount that happened to be 2 days ago but i fixed it. Its was the muffler mount. It would happened just when you accelerate.
