3" or 4.5" lift on a daily driver
I need to be able to use my 2001 xj classic as my daily driver but want to get more comfortable clearance when i go wheelin. What do you guys think i should get. I do not do much rock crawling but i do go out at least once a month. Also any suggestions about the paticular lift of other mods may need to do with the specific lift. thanks i apriectate it.

I have a rough country 4.5" X series kit full rear spring pack in my 94 Daily driver. LOVE IT, it rides a stiffer than stock but I'm glad I did the full 4.5 I've seen the 3" kits and everybody I've talked to with the 3" kit wishes they bought the 4.5 Rough country makes a solid product and stands behind it. if you go with them go straight to their website and order it directly from them this way theres no middle man if there should be a problem. I also went with the steering stabilizer upgrade and the nitro 9000 shock upgrade, well worth the extra 25 bucks a piece, if you do decide to do the RC kit get a drop pitman arm and an adjustable trac bar. just my 2c

I also have the 4.5" RC with full leaf packs on my daily driver and absolutely love it.

have the RE 3.5 lift on right now, full packs. Its sitting between 4 and 5 right now and I love it. I bought it back when my jeep was still my DD and I loved the height and how it looked. The ride is good enough for a jeep haha.

I think the 4.5" kit and 32"s is a perfect height, and with some nice shocks you can make it ride nice too. I however have the RC nitro 9000 shocks that my RC 4.5" X-series came with. These shocks are slowly killing me haha

I don't want to thread jack but if i get the 4.5 RC lift do i really need to get an adjustable track bar? Because like the OP i'm gonna be doing some offroading, but nothing hardcore since it is my DD

And I've got the 4.5 RC for a DD and love it.
However, you might consider getting extended brake lines and replacing your steering. Any original stock steering ends are probably worn out by now and will give you trouble when you lift. I learned the hard way....as usual.

The 4.5 RC kit tells you to redrill and make a new hole in the stock mount to move the track bar over. DON'T!!! Spend the little extra and get an adj. track bar.
And I've got the 4.5 RC for a DD and love it.

Btw what size tires are you running? if i get the 4.5 i'm thinking of running 32" tires, but i don't want any rubbing issues and i'm trying to avoid a major loss in gas mileage

i have a 4.5" w/ 32's and love it. i had to trim a little off the front bumper and extended all my bumpstops, plus you will need extended brake lines when you disco. i bought some brake lines for a 93 chevy full size p/u 2wd v8 and they work great, and only 17 bucks a piece. Pics are in my album for reference if you need them
