tires really make a big difference as well, as they are your only contact with the ground it all comes down to them. the lockers will help you apply the awesome grip of your tires, but w/o good tread, lockers wont help too much. if i had a 2wd jeep it would have to be locked. i pulled into my folks the other day when it was kinda icy/snowy. their driveway is all but flat and there was no way i was getting out in just 2wd. my drivers side tire just sat there staring at me while my pass side tire was gonna catch on fire... the ol one tire fire
but it is vermont. all we have is mud, snow and mountains. really its a good place for wheeling, but all land is either private, state, or too rugged for anything other that a goat... actually i did some of the most aggressive off roading so far the other night and it did as well as my buddies wrangler w/ 33's, 6" of lift and ARB air lockers front and rear!!! woo hoo! imagine a locked rear end and like 3" of lift??? damn... (drool)

Guys I need help.
Today I decided intalling the locker and found that both drivers are slotted. The instructions mention that one should be slotted and the other one not.

I stopped installing it,but the thrush washers are already out.

Any help ?

 

Yeah, Ive read this happening to people before. Except it was the other way around. Both sides had no slot to install the C-clip. The slotted side should be installed on the passenger side of the locker. I think you could use both sides if they are slotted. but I'm not sure. The inner rings should hold c-clips in place and then the cross pin keeps them in place. It's sucks that it's saturday and you can't call Aussie themselves and get an answer. Hopefully someone who has some info that is better on this. I'm going to go over my directions and pictures when I did mine and see if it's possible.

 

Well I was thinking, could I install both c-clips when the locker is already in place? Is there any reason for the instructions indicating that one should install first the left c-clip ?

No, iirc, there isn't enough room to slide the c-clip in around the ring gear. You install the drivers side axle, install the little ring and left side locker gear. There isn't enough room to install the locker in one assembly either. Also due to the ring gear. I don't want to tell you that you can use the slotted side and then you have a problem. I'm still searching for info for you. Don't you hate when you spend good money on a special order part and they can't even fill the box correctly?

 

Totally .One can assume that they inspect every part before sending them...

Yes,two are slotted,but my locker is the Powertrax No Slip,not the Aussie one.

I noticed that I have two slotted parts,when the instructions mention only one.It is weird cause I assembled the locker in my hands and everything seemed to fit.
Something tells me that I am doing something wrong with the c-clips, cause the cross pin didn't get across ,there was something obstructing it.

 

Oh, I'm sorry bro. I thought you got the Aussie locker. I have no idea about the powertracs. I thought they were pretty much the same though. I can't be of much help with this one. I hope someone chimes in to help. Good luck man.
