Exclamation 231 transfer case question

Im am currently rebuildin my 231 transfer case out of my 1991 cherokee and changing output shafts is there any way that you could have flip the chain aroud and but it on backwads.

when I rebuilt my 94 NP231 a couple months ago the chain could be installed either way if I remember correctly.

ya i tried both ways it just seemed like it had drag or like it was catching on something just being careful hate to damage the t case

I rebuilt mine a few months ago and from what I remember you could install it either way. I never kept track of which way it came off- it has run just fine since. Good luck.

only one way for it to go on. you would have to go out of your way to install it wrong.

If it's dragging any the chain is probably stretched out over a time of use. If you install everything and the chain has play and will move enough to touch any side of the case you need to buy a new chain
