When I replaced mine, I removed the glove box and plastic pieces underneath the glove box. The resistor is behind those pieces, on the left side.

make sure you check for burnt or melted wires. I recommend you buy a quality resistor.

I agree with jpz. An easy job once you go through the motions once. My blower was only working on highest speed. After replacing the resistor, all speeds working great.

Update..... blower motor resister was bad.
after parts store price quotation ($40.00)......and hours of research I found the thermal fuse bad (open) and soldered in a replacement for$2.50.

If it blows again, suspect a bad blower motor drawing too much current and not blowing enough air across the resistor.

Late to the party, but willing to add the major reason for a burnt out resistor is the blower motor pulling too many amps because of worn or sticky bearings. Many times the resistor connector plug will melt as well. These can still be had at a dealer or cut one out of a wreck.

I noticed the OE one in my 2000 WJ didn't have an overload fuse in it, but the replacement one did. My plug was melted. I replaced my blower motor with a cheap Chinese one that only had 2 wires on it and both were black. I had to make sure to get the polarity right so it ran in the right direction.

Dave, how's that el-cheapo motor working for you??

I'm asking because my blower motor is exhibiting the typical signs of an electric motor dying a slow/natural death and I'd prefer a new Mopar part, but between the price and not wanting to deal with swapping that damn hamster wheel, I'm considering going aftermarket but worry about asking for trouble... I replaced my entire exhaust 3 years ago "manifold back" with that el-cheapo "made in china" B.S. and I'm pretty sure the header is cracked (again) and I know for sure the damn pipe rusted at the hanger. It passed inspection even though it's loose and louder than normal, but I'm really aggravated that I didn't just get a quality SS manifold and higher end pipes so I don't have to pull the manifolds off and redo the same damn repair.

I ended up repairing the resister....there is a 184°c thermal fuse across the resister terminals. I soldered on a replacement and it's been working fine for over a month now.

Nice move! I love to see when somebody makes a repair to something that most consumers would just toss it in the trash. The Fix IT, Don't Trash It philosophy is one of my prime self-directives in life. and so much more satisfying than the standard approach.

FYI you could just"jumper out" the thermal fuse...at your own risk, as it would create a potential fire hazard in the duct. But it would be useful as a diagnostic test.
