Default 2001 new hub.....

New XJ in the family. Just bought this over the weekend for my stepson who just graduated and turned 18. Trying to start him off right.

It needs a passenger side hub assembly, anything I should know. I have done one on a Chevy before just not a Jeep, same difference?

The hubs on Cherokees are known as a unit bearing type hub. They're pretty easy to replace. Spend the money and get a Timken. The center hub bolt is 36mm, impact gun will make life easier for this. Then 3 12-point 13mm bolts holding the hub to the knuckle.

A cool trick for stubborn/stuck hubs is to use a small 3/8" ratchet extension between the inner side of the hub and the axle tube, and to turn the Jeep on and turn the wheel. The power steering will pop it right out.

I used the extension trick on mine and it worked great, and I didn't even have to start the engine, the leverage of the steering gear alone was enough.
