2001 Hood Help Needed
Greetings everyone and thank you for any assistance you can offer. My 2001 Sport has a hood that won't open. I replaced the hood latch cable about 2 months ago after the original latch release pulled off in my hand. That was a real easy fix. Today I went to check fluids and I pull on the latch release and nothing happens. The cable isn't broken, it's brand new, and I can feel the cable still attached and even pulling up under the hood... I think the problem lies somewhere after the cable that I replaced.
So I found this advice,
" Pull the headlight bulbs and cans. Just slip the spring adjustment bolts to the side so you don't have to readjust the
headlights. There are two bolts that hold the hood catch bars in. One you can see directly behind the headlight, the other
is up underneath and hangs down a little, but is out of sight. Remove both on both sides and the hood will open. Have a
new cable ready to put in. Only takes a few minutes to do that. Put everything back together and you will be good to go."
Is the above my best option for a stuck hood? I'm not sure where to begin this time... And I recall people being rather apocalyptic about stuck hoods that aren't from the broken latch that one can just cut and pull on with vice grips. I just don't want to have to destroy the hood to get it open...
Many Thanks!

thats really the only option you have. i found the same thread sometime ago when my hood was stuck also. the lever inside was working fine but the latchs under the hood wouldnot un latch. how i got it undone was tugging really hard on the release lever inside and having someone push up and down on the hood by the latchs taking pressure off of them one finally popped. then i grabbed a pair of pliars and had my buddy pull up on the hood so i could get myhands under it, grabbed the connecting rod and pulled it to get the passenger side undone. if you are able to get one side undone that connecting rod needs to be slide towards the driver side... before i closed the hood i grabbed some penetrating oil, some wd40 and soaked everything. even shot it dwn the cable line. having motorcycles all my life i had some cable lube that i shot down the inside the cable also. got some stuff like teflon in it. works wonders on sticking clutch cables. good luck man
UPDATE: Successfully got the hood open today, took about an hour. The bolts were not easily accessible and I ended up cutting away some of the fiberglass to reach them. The problem ended up being the terminal end of the hood latch cable coming unseated from the clip in the 'gear'. Here are some photos, I hope they help save someone a bit of stress!
