Default 2001 cherokee sport 4.0 automatic radiator swap.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the info and tips I've gotten here, you guy's have been very helpful.
I've got to swap out the radiator on my 2001 cherokee sport 4.0 automatic. I read in a Haynes manual that I need a special tool for the tranny line's? Is that true? Dosen't look any different than my 98 4,0 was.
Any information would be appreciated very much. Thanks so much.
Gene.

To get the lower tranny line disconnected I used this for my '00.

Thing is that sometimes gunk and crap get in the fitting keeping the tool from getting in there to release the tabs. Might want to give it a good cleaning in there first.
Also guys have said they have done it with screwdrivers.
In hindsight I think I should have unscrewed the elbow the tranny line connects into and then removed it.
Also might want to put a tiny bit of Vaseline on the elbow on the new radiator to not roll the O-ring in the tranny line.

Yeah, you need an AC/Fuel line disconnect tool(s). I was able to get mine off with the cheap plastic ones from my local autozone(like these:
https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-37000-Conditioning-Fuel-Disconnect/dp/B0002SRCK6/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2JBHMPMR4DARJ&keywords=ac+fuel+line+disconnect+tool+set&qid=1573237671&sprefix=ac+fuel+line%2Caps%2C233&sr=8-6 https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-37000-Conditioning-Fuel-Disconnect/dp/B0002SRCK6/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2JBHMPMR4DARJ&keywords=ac+fuel+line+disconnect+tool+set&qid=1573237671&sprefix=ac+fuel+line%2Caps%2C233&sr=8-6
))

As long as you clean out the gunk really well beforehand, you should be able to get them off. There are good YouTube videos on this... Fairly easy. Clean very well first and blow compressed air in there, and you shouldn't have any issues.

I fought with the lower line at the radiator a bit because of the dirt, so i got creative. Grab some rubber hose that fits snug around the tube, and wide enough to fit into the end. Trim as needed. You now have a homemade dust shield. Once the tubes are connected, slide the rubber into place. Should keep most, if not all of the dust, out.

When I changed the injectors in my 2000 WJ 4.0, I couldn't get the fuel line to disconnect from the rail no matter what I did. I just left it connected and hung it out of the way until I installed the injectors into it, then put the whole thing back in. I realize you can't do that with the radiator, but I just wanted to show they can be a real problem.
