2001 cherokee making ticking noise after start up
This is what I usually do during the day. Start up, drop into drive and go to the gym. No issues. Be done with my workout 2 hours later. Get in, start up, put XJ in drive and try to drive off. As soon as my foot hit the throttle, there is a loud ticking noise that comes from under the hood. I would then let off the go pedal and feather the noise away and everything is fine for the trip. The noise will return after every start up for the day.
I have ruled out the following: hood release cable, ATF lines, and Coolant overflow line being caught in the fan.
The noise cannot be replicated while the jeep is neutral and revving the crap out it. I has to be in drive.
The noise sound like a pipe falling into the fan.
Please help me diagnose this phenomenon.

doubtful, This noise is tick or pop, the noise happens about .5 seconds apart and is loud. i remember a before winter came, i left the throttle down until i got either a cylinder 3 misfire and cylinder 6 misfire.
do you guys think this is related to TSP #18-031-03: hot start misfire?

If it is a heat soak related number three cylinder misfire, the car will do more than just make noise, it will run really rough for about thirty seconds to a minute until the vaporized fuel leaves the injector. Are you sure it isn't a sticking lifter? If so it will sould like the car in this video. I realize that the car in the video is not a Cherokee, but the noise in the video is comperable.
