2001 Cherokee 4WD Operation Question

2001 Cherokee 4WD Operation Question
When a 2001 Cherokee is operating in 2WD, should the front drive shaft turn as the front wheels are turning? I have a 1987 Comanche and in 2WD the front drive shaft does NOT turn when the front wheels are turning. However, the front drive shaft in my 2001 Cherokee DOES turn in 2WD as the front wheels turn. So, should the front axle be turning in 2WD? If not, any idea what is wrong? Thanks!

The 2001 cherokee is always connected to the front drivetrain. just like an old 4x4 with locking hubs that would always be locked. The driveshaft is disconnected inside the transfer case. So Yes, its suppose to spin in 2wd
