Default 2000 XJ walker exhaust

Sup everyone, I currently have a 'banks monster' exhaust on my jeep and its starting to sound like crap. I wanna change this setup and on rockauto.com i get 2 choices: the Walker Quiet-flow 21357 or 21489. I'd like to make it sound as low/original as possible... Maybe someone has one of these exhaust and any tips or suggestions would be great. I'm pretty much a mechanic noob. I change the oil but thats pretty much it..but I like the xj and i use it daily!
Thanks, Vince

Same muffler. Just depends on whether you have a CA Emissions or a Federal one. Assuming a build date after 1/20/00. Now what I can't answer is what was done, if anything, to install the Banks. Not sure what one looks like but if you had a CA Emissions one means you had the rear cat and the flange on the front of the muffler and rear of the rear cat to connect the two. Did the Banks come with the flange? If not did it get cut off? And if so maybe you want to one that just slips on. But will everything be in the right position still to hang properly. I replaced the exhaust on my '00 with CA Emissions with Walker parts. Dual front cat back. I was for a bit considering a Borla. One of the reason was that it comes with the flange to bolt to the rear cat. Not all performance exhausts do.

Thanks for the quick reply and detailed info. For the emissions I can't be 100% sure because it's a ''canadian jeep'' (if it changes anything) but it was built in late 1999. For the Banks it was a matter of cutting and sliding. From what you told me, I think I should be fine with the Walker 21357 and Walker 55188 pipe? Borla sounds nice from what I heard on youtube but I just want some quietness lol.

If I had to guess it is a Federal one. But.... What does the white sticker in the engine compartment firewall say? Assuming that a Canadian Jeep has one. So do you have the dual cat set up in the front coming off the exhaust manifolds? That is CA Emissions. My concern is that if the Banks was a slip on and if too much was cut off then when you go to put on the 21357 it might be to far forward. Now if I recall correctly that does not matter because the muffler just hangs there. Where it could come into play is where the tailpipe ends up. You have the one hanger with the insulator which might have a little play in. Thinking cause the back is just a clamp around a tail pipe from that hanger you probably have some play there. I am probably making it more then it is. Just I could see that happening though. I was thinking about using the Borla. The reason I was, and why I posted that link, so you could see the flange on the muffler. Which depending on what emissions you have might or might not have come like that from the factory. Point being is that for my CA Emissions '00 it would have been a straight bolt. But I just went Walker instead.

Oh and one last thing for my '00 that rear hanger on the tail pipe gets cut off. Cause you use the hanger at the second link.

I need to apologize. You wrote that it was built late in '99. Like an *** I did not realize till I saw the build date of 10/99 in the picture. Both mufflers at the Napa links I posted say they are for a build date of 1/20/00 and after. Pretty sure you are going to want the slip on one, 21357, and the tail pipe you posted. If for no other reason that it might have been cut to put on the Banks exhaust. The only difference between the 2 mufflers you asked about is how it mounts. Even if you had the flange there, which I doubt you did, it is gone. IMO you are going to need to separate that muffler off that rear cat. Do not cut it off. You are going to want as much of the pipe on the rear cat as possible.

No need to apologize! you've been more than helpful. Since you have the walker exhaust, would you say it's quality?

I am OK with it so far. Been 3 years now I guess. The Quiet Flow muffler, just the muffler, has a lifetime warranty. I work at a Napa so I get my parts cheaper. And as I said bought the dual front cat, down pipe, rear cat, muffler, and tailpipe. Not to mention the gasket (between the down pipe and the front of the rear cat), insulator and rear hanger. All Walker. Bolted right up and that was that. So you should be OK. I did do one thing. For the muffler to the tailpipe instead of using a traditional muffler clamp I used this:

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_7333972

My hope is that if I ever have to warranty the muffler and the tail pipe is still good using this clamp will help let me separate the 2. This type of clamp instead of pinching the 2 together like a traditional muffler clamp rather holds them. Now frankly I did see me getting away with this if and when the time comes. But I can hope can't I. LOL.

Off the top of my head thinking Rockauto or Advance Auto. With Advance you get on their email list and they send you 20 sometimes 25% off promo codes. Guessing this is still good. CPV7BX. Free shipping with orders over $25.

So far rockauto has been the best prices...most of the time the shipping is killer tho. Here we don't have Auto Zones or that type of stores. Much more difficult to find parts

Promo code for the most recent 25% offer from advanced. Guessing it is still good. I am looking at the offer in an ad at the top of my screen as I am typing this. If I click on it brings me to Advanced Auto where I see the promo code on the top of their website. I am guessing you see a different ad up there though.
